The 2nd Regional Conference has been successfully completed in Quelimane (Mozambique)

The 2ndFISHERMAN Regional Conference Sustainable Fisheries in the South-Western Indian Ocean: the importance of the Education, Management and Governance took place in Quelimane (Mozambique) on the 8th and 9th of September 2016 and brought together more than 40representatives from the Indian Ocean Higher Education and Fishery sector.

During two days, the discussions were focused on the importance of the fisheries as a source of food and wealth for the region and the need for a good management system that ensures sustainability for socio economic benefit.

MEDITERRANEA Magazine publishes the best papers presented during the 1st Regional Conference

The 1st edition of the FisherMan Regional Conference organised in Madagascar during September 2015 counted with many professionals from the fishery sector such are regional and international experts, authorities, professionals, academics, policy makers and other key parties.

Their contributions have been published on the special edition of the magazine MEDITERRANEA, a Scientific Journal run by the Interdisciplinary Institute for Environmental Studies "Ramon Margalef of the University of Alicante.

The 1st study visit has concluded with success in Algarve, Portugal

The European Partner UAlg from Algarve (Portugal) hosted a one-week study in October.

The 1st Regional Conference ‘Sustainable Fisheries in the South-Western Indian Ocean: the importance of the Education, Management and Governance took place in Mahajanga (Madascar) on the 10th and 11th of September and it helped to be a meeting point for academics, researchers, managers and civil society in general.

The 1st Regional Conference of the FisherMan project started today!

This 1st edition of the Fisherman Regional Conference has brought together many representatives from the Indian Ocean Fishery sector.

The Regional Conference was officially launched by the Ministry of Fisheries, the General Secretary of the Ministry of Higher Education and Research, and by representatives from several regional authorities. With duration of two days several contributions from different sectors will be provided, promoting an effective collaboration in the South-Western Indian Ocean.

The FISHERMAN project is working on the organisation of the 1st Regional Conference “Sustainable Fisheries in the South-Western Indian Ocean: the importance of the Education, Management and Governance” that will take place in Madagascar the 10th and 11th of September this year.

The Universities of Alicante and Algarve cooperate for the start up of the Specialisation in Marine Sciences and Fisheries at the University of Seychelles

Teachers from the University of Alicante and Algarve visited the University of Seychelles during September and October 2014. They delivered lectures for the Specialisation in Marine Sciences and Fisheries in the framework of the FISHERMAN project: Capacity building for sustainable Fisheries Management in the Southwest Indian Ocean, financed by the EDULINK programme. Dr José Luis Sánchez Lizaso and Dr. Yoana del Pilar from Alicante and Dr. Maria Teresa Dinis from Algarve have been the teachers involved.

Welcome to the FISHERMAN newsletter.

The FISHERMAN project aims at supporting Southwest Indian Ocean region universities to prepare a new generation of skilled professionals for a sustainable fisheries management in the region.

Working together on the project are five universities from the region (Comoros, Madagascar, Mozambique, Seychelles and Tanzania) and two universities from the EU (Spain and Portugal).
