The 2ndFISHERMAN Regional Conference Sustainable Fisheries in the South-Western Indian Ocean: the importance of the Education, Management and Governance took place in Quelimane (Mozambique) on the 8th and 9th of September 2016 and brought together more than 40representatives from the Indian Ocean Higher Education and Fishery sector.
During two days, the discussions were focused on the importance of the fisheries as a source of food and wealth for the region and the need for a good management system that ensures sustainability for socio economic benefit.
Special emphasis was put on the key role of Higher Education and the importance of integrating Sustainable Fisheries Management at Higher Education level. The FISHERMAN partners shared with the audience the results achieved during the project and the benefits acquired, as well as the challengesencountered and how they overcame them.
The debate was opened to all participants who also underlined the importance of ensuring the sustainability of the results achieved by the FISHERMAN partner institutions.
